In each of these instances, counterfeit $100 bills were given to the employees.

The Charleston County Sheriff's Office would like to make the public aware of these fraudulent attempts to pay for legitimate service with counterfeit money, and that counterfeit money is circulating in our community.

The Char County Sheriff's Office, along with the U.S. Secret Service are investigating both of these incidents.  Currently there is not enough evidence to determine if these two incidents are connected.

Here are a few tips on how to detect counterfeit money:

Look at the money you receive.
Compare a suspected note of the same denomination and series, paying attention to the printing and paper characteristics.
    Look for differences, not similarities.

Authorities have noticed that the following serial numbers are associated with counterfeit money in each of these incidents.
